Just off the scenic coast of Cascais, Portugal, the Atlantic Ocean is swarming with marine life—and one of the most best ways to experience it is on a dolphin-watching tour. During my recent press trip, I joined Four Adventure Boat Tours for a guided expedition in search of these incredible creatures.

What I discovered was more than just dolphins—it was a deep connection to the wild Atlantic and the natural beauty that surrounds this coastal town. This tour was one for the books, bucket list check and an uforgettable adventure!

Setting Off From Cascais Marina

The tour began at the Cascais Marina, a vibrant hub just steps from the town center. It was conveniently located across the street from my hotel: Vila Gale! The boats used by Four Adventure Boat Tours are modern—fast enough to cover ground and comfortable for a small group

After a short safety briefing, our guide talked about what we might see and how to ensure minimal disruption to wildlife. I love this commitment to marine life preservation!

The Search Begins: Cruising the Atlantic Coast

We headed out past the cliffs of Boca do Inferno, the Atlantic breeze in our faces and panoramic views of the coastline stretching from Cascais to the horizon. The water was a deep sapphire blue, with just a light chop. The anticipation built as we scanned the waves for dorsal fins and movement.

First Sighting: Dolphins Off the Bow

A few mintuies after leaving the marina; one dolphin appeared! He was slicing through the water near the bow of the boat. It seemed like he was riding the wake, then he swam away fast! These sea creatures move quickly; keep your camera ready at all times!

Everyone was excited with anticipation now, and hopeful we would see more dolphins! The boat crew took us out further, as the Cascais coastline faded into the distance. We stopped and floated a few times as to not disturb the water too much.

They knew just where to take us. Soon squeels of excitement came from us all! Suddenly pods appeard ,porpoising the side of the boat. A few of them swam underneath us; and I was able to capture close up snaps. The boat stopped a few more times, to position ourselves for premo sightings.

My heart was so full to have experienced this exciting bucket-list adventure. After several dolphing sightings, the boat resumed course and we headed back to the marina.
